Exploring New Skills

This week has been a steep learning curve, but it’s been rewarding. I’ve been working on my project, and I’m finally seeing the pieces come together. Here’s a breakdown of my journey this past week, from coding challenges to market insights, and what’s helped me stay on track.

JavaScript, Firebase, and More

A huge chunk of my time this week has been spent learning the tech side of things, particularly JavaScript. I had to get familiar with Node.js, install npm, and make sure my Firebase setup was working smoothly.

Choosing Firebase as my backend was a deliberate choice—its real-time database is perfect for projects like mine, where speed and scalability matter. Plus, it integrates really well with JavaScript, so I can update my app in real time without major hassle. I had to download a ton of programs, but YouTube and community forums really helped me out when I got stuck.

Understanding Demand

While working on the technical side, I also took time to understand the market demand. I’ve been watching videos like Ali Abdaal’s Million Dollar Weekend, and The Millionaire Fastlane—both of which stress the importance of building something the market actually wants.

The takeaway here? You need to validate your idea as early as possible. This led me to dive into Reddit and online communities to see how real businesses are thinking about digital receipts. Turns out, the interest is there—but businesses want it simple and cost-effective, which gives me a clear direction moving forward.

Books, Videos, and Lessons

As always, learning isn’t just about doing—it’s about consuming the right content. I’ve learned a lot from some solid books and YouTube channels that have kept me inspired and on track:

  • Ali Abdaal’s Million Dollar Weekend: This video was a game changer in helping me understand how to scale small projects into real businesses.

  • The Millionaire Fastlane by MJ DeMarco: A must-read for anyone building a business. It’s all about creating systems that can scale, not just relying on linear growth. Also learned this from Ali Abdaal.

Note

Still trying to find the right mentor for myself.
